Mumbai Indians, the four-time winners of the IPL title has decided to retain its core team for IPL 2020 season. Since the franchise has released 12 players from the team, in the forthcoming IPL auction it will be filling up seven slots – 5 domestic players and 2 foreign players. One among the players who were released in the IPL 2020 Mumbai Indians Squad is Yuvaraj Singh retired in last June. Apart from Yuvaraj Singh, the released players include Evin Lewis, Adam Milne, Jason Behrendorff, Beuran Hendricks, Ben Cutting, Mayank Markande, Barinder Sran, Rasikh Salam, Pankaj Jaswal, Siddesh Lad and Alzam Joseph. The players who were retained by MI are Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rahul Chahar, Anmolpreet Singh, Jayant Yadav, Aditya Tare, Anukul Roy, Dhawal Kulkarni, Quintin de Kock, Kieron Pollard, Sherfane Rutherford, Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan and Trent Boult. Rohit Sharma is the Captain of the MI team.
Young Players in MI
Anmolpreet Singh, the very young player was the architect of India’s victory in the Under-19 World Cup in 2018. He led his team to a commanding victory in the semi-finals and in the domestic cricket scenario of India Anmolpreet Singh has been a sensation. However, cricket lovers and the majority of his fans wished that Anmolpreet Singh would have been released before the IPL auction 2020 so that he will get sufficient opportunities to prove his worth and will drive the attention of national selectors. Since he has been with the star-studded MI, Anmolpreet Singh could not get a single game throughout the series. Though in the IPL 2019 auction he was grabbed by MI, one among the most successful IPL franchises in appreciation of his performance in the Under-19 World Cup he didn’t get the chance to play. Nobody knows whether he will get the chance to make his IPL debut in the upcoming season.
Jayant Yadav in Mumbai Indians Squad
Though Jayant Yadav has been retained by MI, it was widely expected that he will be released this time. Jayant Yadav has been a player in four IPL seasons but, so far he has played only in 12 matches. In the IPL 2019 season, he played only in two games and his performance was not up to the mark. He could claim only one wicket and didn’t get the opportunity to bat. Unfortunately, this talented spin-bowling all-rounder was not utilized to his full potential. Jayant Yadav had been in the Indian cricket team at international level.
The fast bowler from New Zealand, Mitchell McClenaghan has been in the MI team for the last five seasons and he was the team’s most favourite bowler in powerplays as well as death overs. Mitchell is known for his consistency and in the history of IPL, he has the best wickets-to-match ratio. He grabbed 71 wickets in just 56 matches he played for MI. Unfortunately, in IPL 2019 series, Mitchell was left out for most of the matches as a result of the inclusion of Jason Behrendorff, the Australian left-arm pacer. Jason Behrendorff is released by MI this year because of his injury and to fill the gap MI franchise traded in Trent Boult of New Zealand, who is considered as the ODI world’s best bowler. As a result of the inclusion of Trent Boult, the chances for Mitchell McClenaghan to be one among the playing eleven are bleak in the upcoming IPL season also.
