Rajasthan Royals picked Deepak immediately after watching his ability to swing the ball and his impressive bowling stats in domestic matches. However, Deepak Chahar was benched throughout his tenure with Rajasthan Royals in the 2012 and 2013 IPL season. Unfortunately, he was unsold for four long years after Rajasthan released him in 2012. Deepak’s cricketing career took a drastic turn around when he joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This success continued over the five seasons he played for CSK, where he picked 71 wickets for his team. His standout performance came in the 2019 IPL, where he picked up 22 wickets in 17 innings. The 2022 IPL auction proved lucrative for him, and CSK signed back Deepak for 14 Crores. Since then, he has been a valuable asset for the CSK setup.
Rajasthan Royals included Deepak Chahar after noticing his performance in the Rajasthan Ranji team in 2011. However, Deepak never got a chance playing for Rajasthan in both the years he was part of. Rajasthan Royals released Deepak in 2012 and he had been unsold for the next 4 years of the IPL. Rising Pune Supergiants signed Deepak Chahar for 10 Lakhs in the 2016 IPL. He played only 5 matches combining both the seasons he represented for the RPS.
After the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise folded, MS Dhoni brought back his former teammate Deepak Chahar to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018. Chahar joined CSK for a salary of 80 lakhs and delivered some promising performances that season. He was retained by CSK for the subsequent seasons (2019-2021) at the same price. However, in the 2022 IPL auction, Chahar’s salary skyrocketed to a staggering 14 crores, and he will continue to earn the same amount in the 2024 season.
