Mayank Markande is a leg-spinner from Punjab. Markande started his career as a medium-pacer but eventually shifted to leg-break bowling on his coach’s advice. In 2018 IPL season, Mumbai Indians scouts recognized Mayank Markande skills. Mayank added to the Mumbai Indians’ group in 2018. He displayed his potential in his first season taking up 15 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 24.53 and a strike rate of 17.60. The 20-year-old had his dream debut, taking three key wickets against the Chennai Super Kings, including the wickets of Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni.
In 2019 IPL season, Mayank received limited opportunities to play in Playing XI. He played three matches and managed to take only one wicket. Markande got fewer chances in subsequent seasons, playing only three matches between 2020 and 2022. Mayank Markande got a long-term opportunity with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023. He featured in 10 matches taking 12 wickets with an average of 25.00 and a strike rate of 19.00. Mayank Markande will continue with Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2024 IPL season.
Mayank Markande joined IPL in 2018 when Mumbai Indians picked him for INR 20.00 lakh. Mumbai Indians retained him for the 2019 IPL season for the same price value. Mayank Markande was traded to Rajasthan Royals in 2020 for INR 2.00 crore. Rajasthan Royals maintained the same salary of INR 2.00 crore in 2021. Markande returned to Mumbai Indians in the 2022 IPL season for INR 6.5 lakh. In 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for INR 50.00 lakhs. He has been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2024 IPL season.
