Washington Sundar is a three-dimensional player, an all-rounder capable of batting at any position and bowling as needed by the team, as well as a superb fielder. Sundar was called as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin in the Rising Pune Supergiants squad in 2017. He played 11 matches and took eight wickets for the team with an average of 23.12 and a strike rate of 22.50. In December 2017, he made his India debut in the one-day international series against Sri Lanka at Mohali. Later in the month, he made his T20I debut in Mumbai, becoming India’s youngest T20I player. In 2019, Washington played three matches and took four wickets. Washington Sundar played consistent matches from the Playing XI in the 2019 IPL season. He took eight wickets from 15 matches and scored 111 runs. After his successful stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore, he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2022 IPL season. He featured in nine games for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022, taking six wickets and 101 runs. His knock of 40 off 14 was game-changing against Rajasthan Royals. Washington Sundar was retained by SRH for the 2023 and 2024 IPL seasons.
