Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy stadium is formerly referred as Andhra Cricket Association/ Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (ACA/VDCA). The stadium is located in the midst of scenic hills of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This magnificent stadium contains the seating capacity of 25,000 spectators and established in the year of 2003. The pitch of this ground is relatively small in comparison with others and thus supports power hitting. The stadium is designed in two-tier architecture and eliminated pillars and columns to avoid the obstruction in enjoying the match for cricket fans. The infrastructure of the ground was well appreciated for their deepwater drainage system along with floodlight facility to host Day/Night matches. The Ends of the ground are literally known as Vizzy end and DV Subba Rao End.

History Of YSR Reddy Cricket Stadium

The stadium inaugurated its first ODI match in 2005 between India and Pakistan, in which MS Dhoni notched up his maiden century of 148 runs in one-day international matches. The latest ODI is played between India and West Indies in December 2019. The first-ever test match was held in November 2016 between India and England and the latest test match of this stadium happened on October 2019 between India and South Africa. The first Twenty20 match was played on September 2012 between India and New Zealand and the latest one was held on February 2019 between India and Australia.

The splendid moments of this ground were Rohit Sharma scored about 159 off 138 balls in December 2019 against West Indies to record the highest individual score in One day International in this ground by breaking the record of Virat Kholi. In October 2019 test match, Rohit Sharma scored his first century in first innings and another century in second innings of the match. In the same test series, he made 13 power hits and creating the record again in this prominent stadium. Mayank Agarwal made history in this stadium by hitting his first century and extended it to double hundred (215), marking the highest ever individual score.Twenty20 match of February 2016 against Sri Lanka hosted in this stadium, marked the Ravichandran Ashwin took off 4 wickets by his over spell for 8 runs. In October 2018, Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and become ever fastest cricketer to score 10,000 runs in ODI matches in 205 innings against West Indies.

In 2016 IPL season Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy stadium served as a home ground for Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Super Giants due to scarcity of water in Maharashtra. 3 games of that season IPL matches took over here. The ground served as home ground for 2 more teams – Deccan Chargers team of IPL in 2012 and Sunrisers Hyderabad team of IPL in 2015. In 2019 IPL none of the matches has been played here due to elections held and become Standby venue, although the stadium has been selected for Eliminator and Qualifier 2 of the tournament.
