India’s oldest ever cricket ground is the Eden Gardens stadium located in core of Kolkata. It was built in 1864 remains the largest cricket ground in India and Asia and second-largest ground in the world, with respect to seating capacity. The Garden spread over 50 acres of land including the stadium, indoor, gardens, lakes and pagoda. This historic stadium allows the number of 66,000 cricket audience in it. Eden Garden stadium is the third biggest stadium in the world next to Melbourne Cricket ground and ANZ stadium of Australia.

History Of Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Initially, the Garden is created by the Governor-General Lord Auckland for recreation. The stadium is located beside the Park and got the name from Eden sisters of Lord Auckland. This stadium holds the pride of hosting various historic matches like ICC World Cup 1987 Finals, ICC World Cup 1996 Semifinals, Hero Cup, ICC World Twenty20 finals of 2016, Asia Cup and so on in various Twenty20, Test matches and ODI matches.

Eden Gardens are also well known as Mecca of Indian Cricket. This iconic stadium is the home ground of Bengal Cricket Team and IPL Cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. Eden Gardens has the privilege of being the first stadium to have floodlights were installed and first Day and Night cricket matches are played here. The First Day and Night match was between India and Bangladesh during their second test match. The first test match was recorded in this stadium in 1934 between India and England.

The stands of this stadium are named after exceptional home cricketers and Indian Soldiers. 2 stands are named after the marvellous cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Pankaj Roy. Few more stands were named after the Cricket administrators ICC and BCCI Presidents BN Dutt and Jagmohan Dalmiya. 4 more stands were named after the Indian Warriors – Colonel Neelakantan Jayachandran Nair, Havildar Hangpan Dada, Lieutenant Colonel Dhan Singh Thapa and Subedar Joginder Singh Shanan. The ends of the ground are referred to as High court end and Pavilion end.

The best view can be visible from Block B of Clubhouse end as it gives you the big screen view and is just behind bowler’s arm. Block’s E, F, G and H at high court end are about the bowler’s arm and get you the best atmosphere to enjoy the match. Blocks B, C, D and E gets the sunray in the second half of the day, while blocks K, J, H and G are prone to morning rays. The price tag of each block is as follows. Rs.400 for Block C1, D1, F1, G1, H1 and K1, Rs.500 for Blocks B1, D, E, F1, G, H, J and L1, Rs.1500 for Block F1- Kolkata Knight Riders Pavilion block, Rs.2000 for Block F, Rs.1000 for Block C and K, Rs. 1800 for Block L, Rs. 2100 for Block B, Rs.3000 for Block upper Clubhouse, Rs.9000 for Block Lower Club House. The prices are as per IPL ticket fare and changes occasionally.
