Abhishek Porel is a 21-year-old player from West Bengal. Porel was picked by the Delhi Capitals in 2023 to fill the gap of Rishabh Pant’s absence. Abhishek Porel had to undergo a rigorous selection procedure before Delhi Capitals signed him. Porel and three uncapped wicketkeepers, Sheldon Jackson, Luvnith Sisodia, and Vivek Singh, underwent match simulation exercises and were monitored by the Capitals coaching group.
Abhishek Porel had impressed everyone with his glove work in the domestic circuit. He was also a member of the 2022 U-19 World Cup winning side, however, he did not play in any of the matches. The Delhi Capitals decided to sign him worth his base price of INR 20 lakhs in 2023. Abhishek Porel played four matches in the tournament impressing everyone with his skills and temperament.
Porel’s Wicket Keeping skills impressed everyone. However, his batting performance was hardly the talk of the town. He made 33 runs in four matches with an average of 8.25 and a strike rate of 106.45. It remains to be seen if they will play him alongside Rishabh Pant this season.
