Sunrisers Hyderabad had one of the strongest teams in IPL 2025. Players like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Pat Cummins, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen gave the squad a lot of balance and strength. Even with such a good team, SRH could not finish in the top four and missed out on the playoffs.
SRH won their only IPL title in 2016. They last reached the final in IPL 2024 but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Ahead of the 2026 mini-auction, Mohammed Shami was bought in the 2025 mega auction was traded to Lucknow Super Giants. The team then focused on rebuilding for the new season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad walked into the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a purse of ₹25.50 crore and 10 slots to fill. With such a healthy budget in hand, they set out to address their weaker areas and add more balance to the squad. The message is clear: they want to compete fiercely and push hard for a second IPL trophy.
At the IPL 2026 auction, SRH bought Shivang Kumar, Sakib Hussain, Omkar Tarmale, Amit Kumar, Praful Hinge and Krains Fuletra for ₹30 lakh each. They also signed wicketkeeper-batter Salil Arora for ₹1.50 crore. Big signings included Liam Livingstone for ₹13 crore, Shivam Mavi for ₹75 lakh and Jack Edwards for ₹3 crore.

2016 Glory Under David Warner’s Captaincy
Between 2008 and 2013, the Hyderabad-based side was known as the Deccan Chargers. They had a tough start, ending the very first IPL season at the bottom. However, the turnaround came quickly in 2009 when Adam Gilchrist led them to a remarkable title win against RCB in the final. With key contributions from players like Rohit Sharma, the team found its rhythm and even managed to reach the knockout stage again the following season.
From 2014 onwards, the franchise took on a new identity as Sunrisers Hyderabad and quickly found success. They became regular contenders in the playoffs and went all the way in 2016, lifting the IPL trophy under David Warner’s captaincy. In the years that followed, however, the side saw frequent leadership changes before Pat Cummins finally took over in 2024. He guided SRH to the final that year, and after a disappointing IPL 2025, the team is now desperate to get back to that level again.
