The magician and mastermind of T20 cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin made his debut in the IPL playing under the leadership of MS Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings in 2009. Soon he made an impact with his bowling and helped CSK win their maiden IPl trophy in 2010. In 2011 IPL season, Ashwin picked up 20 wickets in 16 matches playing a major role in Chennai Super Kings winning their second IPL trophy.
Until the 2015 IPl season, Ravichandran Ashwin played for CSK and picked up 90 wickets in 97 matches and he is amongst the top five wicket takers for CSK. Ashwin then joined Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016, where he picked up 10 wickets in 14 matches. After missing the 2017 IPL season, he made his comeback with the Punjab Kings in 2018 IPL season and played until 2019. Ashwin picked up 25 wickets in 28 matches representing Punjab Kings.
He then made a shift to the Delhi Capitals in the 2020 IPL season and played an instrumental role in Delhi’s qualification to the final by picking up 13 crucial wickets in 15 matches. He had a poor 2021 season and was not retained ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auction. Rajasthan Royals took a chance with the veteran off-spinner and he didn’t disappoint them. Ashwin played a second spinner assisting Yuzvendra Chahal. In the 2023 IPL season, Ashwin picked up 14 wickets in 13 matches.
Overall Ravichandran Ashwin IPL stats are daunting and when you look back at his IPL career, he has picked up 171 wickets in 197 matches and he is fifth on the list of all-time wicket takers in the leagues history. With the bat he has scored 714 runs at a strike rate of 118.80.
Ravichandran Ashwin IPL Salary
The Chennai Super Kings picked Ravichandran Ashwin for INR 12 Lakhs in 2008. In 2011, they increased his salary to INR 3.91 crore. After eight seasons with CSK, Ashwin moved to Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2016, where they bought him for INR 7.5 crore. Pune retained him again in 2017, but an injury ruled him out of the season.
In 2018, Punjab Kings acquired Ashwin for INR 7.6 crore, and he even captained the franchise that season. However, Punjab Kings traded him to Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2020 for the same price of INR 7.6 crore. Following two seasons with DC, Rajasthan Royals picked Ravichandran Ashwin for an IPL salary of INR 5 crores in 2022.
